I bought my dress there, I bought my vintage rhinestone jewelry there, and I just won an auction for my shoes! I originally wanted to go with pink or green shoes to match the wedding colors, and thought it'd be oh-so-fun to dye my crinoline pink or green too (I'm kinda funky, what can I say?). But then the pink shoes I REALLY REALLY wanted, when I finally went to buy them online, were... um... not there anymore. I tried and tried to find them at other places, but they were gone.

*sniff*

So, off to ebay I went. And then I found them.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOzbYjjiMTtgspRXzMrzfcL6r3SaDc_8QjnTweg5kpXJRB0P-dEg5BVQO69Gf6a0qveGDupGwxLosAqXpYquLx-EUriF3YMDq6J9bOCjcRkuondgJWox5AkVWMz5B8wMkBQXrmzoJiJpo/s320/d614_1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122781835202572290" />

Absolutely gorgeous, totally my style, and they're even from J Crew. The best part? REALLY INEXPENSIVE. I seriously think that when all is said and done, I'll have spent less than $500 total on everything I'll be wearing for the wedding. Not bad, huh? :)BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-62420694176489192812007-10-06T10:57:00.000-07:002007-10-06T12:46:56.440-07:00Best Cupcakes in America!I logged onto my AOL account this morning, and wouldn't you know it? One of the healine stories was about the Best Cupcakes in America. Now, if you've read some of my previous posts, you know what a cupcake fiend I am, and how much I absolutely love Trophy cupcakes in Seattle.

Well. Guess who made the list of the best cupcakes in America?

That's right, Trophy cupcakes and their Hummingbird cupcake (trust me, it's amazing). Another Seattle cupcakery (Cupcake Royale) also made the list, which makes me really, really happy. For an addict like me, I have access to two of the top places. Yippie! For those of you in other cities, here's the list (article by Dulcy Israel):

Red Velvet Cupcake
Magnolia Bakery
401 Bleecker St. New York, NY 10014-2452
(212) 462-2572
(made famous by Sex in the City)

Vanilla Cupcake
Sprinkles
Plaza at Preston Center
4020 Villanova Drive Dallas, Texas 75225
214-369-0004
(one of Oprah's favorite cupcakeries!)

Peppermint Party Cupcake
Cupcake Royale
2052 Market St. Seattle, Wash. 98107
206-782-9557
(one of the first cupcake places in Seattle)

Hummingbird Cupcake
Trophy Cupcakes
1815 N. 45th St. Suite 209 Seattle, Wash. 98103
206-632-7235
(the Hummingbird is a pineapple, banana, coconut piece of heaven with cream cheese frosting)

Chocolate and Vanilla Old Fashioned Cupcakes
Back in the Day Bakery
2403 Bull Street Savannah, Ga. 3140
912-495-9292
(Paula Dean loves this place)

Good Morning Cupcake
The Cupcakery
9680 S. I haven't kept up with all the choices because this year has been such a busy time for me, but I couldn't resist taping the wedding episode. Let's face it, many brides, including myself, become addicted to anything and everything wedding-related.

I thought the choices for the Today Show wedding were amazing- I love the BM dresses, the grey suits for the GM, the green swags across Rockefeller Square, the floral bouquets.... but clearly, the most stunning choice by FAR was Jessica's (the bride) Reem Acra dress. It's gorgeous, and it looks gorgeous on her!

I'm sure you brides out there would differ as to whether you would want a wedding paid for by the Today show, and of course there are pros (free wedding! Planning by Martha Stewart! Getting to meet Matt Lauer!) and cons (viewers choose everything- what if you don't like the choices?, less personal, limited guest list). I've gotta say, though, that if someone offered to pay for my wedding, I'd definitely say yes, even if it meant letting go of some of my own planning. After all, the choices presented to the Today Show viewers are exquisite (I don't think I could ever afford a designer dress, for example).

In any case, time for the video!

Here's the video of Jessica walking down the aisle (she looks so happy!):
(Click to view)

Jessica and Cody say ‘I do!’BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-32766296034192999262007-10-04T00:03:00.000-07:002007-10-14T00:10:26.500-07:00Crossword ProposalI recently read about this proposal and thought to myself, "awwwwwwwwwwww". Even though I thought my own proposal was perfect in its own way, I have to admit I think this one is pretty cool too:

BOSTON -- Forget about candlelight, champagne and a bended knee. Don't think about a public proposal at Fenway Park while the Red Sox play.

They are both romantic in their own way, but not nearly as inventive as the proposal concocted by a love-struck man and a local newspaper.

The clue in a Boston Globe Sunday crossword puzzle turned out to be part of a clever and very original marriage proposal.

The clue for 111 across was “Generic Proposal.” The answer: “Will you marry me?”

For Aric Egmont, of Cambridge, Mass., the answer was also the marriage proposal to his girlfriend and puzzle devotee, Jennie Bass.

The Globe said that Egmont, 29, contacted the magazine this summer to ask if the puzzle writers would be willing to write one especially for him.

“On our fourth date, I knew I had found the kind of dork I could love,” Egmont wrote in a note to the magazine. “We just went to the local coffee shop and did the crossword. That date was the first moment when we stopped relying on some kind of event to set the agenda, and instead we took that first tiny step towards normalcy, spending time together doing the same things we would regularly do on our own.”

For Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon, the married puzzle-writing team, the challenge was more than including a single clue. They wanted to create an entire puzzle based on the theme “popping the question.” Each clue that followed the theme had to work. For example, “Macrame artist’s proposal” was “Let’s tie the knot.”

Cox and Rathvon then went beyond a generic clue for Egmont's proposal. "Generic Proposal" actually was a phonetic play on words of the couple's first names: Jen and Aric.

Egmont told the newspaper that Saturday night was a restless one. The happy ending came Sunday.

“Finally, Sunday morning, I was like, ‘Do you want to do the crossword?’ I grab the paper and we start doing it. There are clues that have personal significance, my last name, her best friend’s name. She’s not suspicious at all. Her sister’s name is in there. She’s like, ‘This is so bizarre.’ She just thinks it’s an amazing coincidence.”

Until they got to 111 across.

“We get to the ‘Will you marry me?’ clue, and I said, ‘Will you marry me, Jenny?’ I got up, got the ring, and got down on one knee and she screamed, and hugged me. It took her a minute to say yes.”

Note: Here's a link to the actual crossword puzzle.BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-58913479330056907582007-09-05T13:52:00.000-07:002007-10-18T14:04:51.990-07:00What's That You've Got Under There?Since I started planning my wedding, I have become addicted to wedding websites and blogs. On Weddingbee, I came across the COOLEST IDEA EVER. I never in a million years even thought about the idea of dying a crinoline to match wedding colors. Now THAT is creative, and I am definitely "into" creative. My wedding colors are pink and green... how cute would a pink crinoline be?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaSqntfj9AjEx_XcZi3gPBBss4k5n_5SoWTyBBvkQgXl0HgKquhMFQ46_0qKEAbGYMjHIC98pIY43HkY3PbTrVsF4puXxDB0ZORDbrss09eyIvQd1G2UA5UD9rAjFGh5mva3b4QTq370I/s320/crinoline3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122784373528244242" />
(Image totally pilfered off of Weddingbee)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsvt7z96TcL6I9SCSsknEf0btPXiHDKFz9mMLZaOZDjyJwlBmzjSnjCedz5wEcK5P95h4YXvKhdmydAxRRtU-dD0iqbZ0HUdf1dwmx4aM1eWeWnMFTzSJHuiai7a9pnJ_oQ9nboYrAu6M/s320/crinoline5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122785168097194018" />
(Image also totally pilfered off of Weddingbee. Don't get me wrong, I love diamonds (especially because I don't have many of them!), and would never turn one down regardless of its shape. But the honest truth is that my favorite cut has always been the Asscher.

When FH and I first started talking about rings, he asked me what I liked best. My reply? "Asschers, definitely". He, being a guy, had no idea what that meant. So a few weeks later we went looking at rings, just so he could get a sense for what looked good on my finger and what styles I preferred.

Although there were many lovely settings and many different diamond shapes that I liked, I pointed out to him that there was no reason whatsover for him to buy something expensive. After all, I generally don't wear jewelry, I'm hard on the jewelry I DO wear, and at this point in my life, I don't need the bling. I showed him a number of beautiful art deco style rings that I liked, none of which had a solitare diamond. In fact, they all had small diamonds, but beautifully arranged into some really neat designs. The benefit of these styles of course, was the fact that they weren't expensive, comparitively.

So imagine my great surprise when FH surprised me with this (pardon my wrinkly fingers- I'll have to start using lotion more often obviously!):

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFckMlKnRVpbuR4vhZRy5Q2MaHm9-RE_crXFVs42VMuxIFuyu5dAsg_2b9sB4OjTfcVC9Pcym5cZkWuPVWuT30NoyJeAysWKo5FjCB5DGGkGWM2iokIpqLSA2f09ke9rloGMSPf8NGNsk/s320/P1010887.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118281804693024754" />

I was shocked. So shocked, in fact, that it took me all of 10 minutes to say "yes" (as if that were even a question, but still). And you know, I've gotta say, while I would have loved one of those art deco designs, I am really starting to realize that yeah.... I'm a total Asscher girl. :)BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-34341401711034388912007-09-01T22:34:00.000-07:002007-09-01T22:38:25.588-07:00Fun With RSVPsSince I've been thinking about invitations lately (see yesterday's post below), I've started to look at options for our response cards. FH and I want to do something a little different or unexpected with every aspect of our wedding. So when I came across this alternative RSVP wording for response cards, I knew we just HAD to do it.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8zQjd9Yus3FjNmtThUYax1x1ED3IN6y_785wmX6YCR-62Y27jFBLBR0wshoQRp-3UJojTZLd9YFbnEx6scVo8gBUbKyQB9XJVNUM3mTPBJx6dX1t3viTYuNloD5adPbl6hKlL4eWFukM/s320/s320x240.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105476573048303362" />BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-61778140280404707332007-08-31T16:22:00.000-07:002007-09-01T22:33:35.559-07:00Behold..... The Pocketfold!A lot has happened in the invitation market since my first marriage almost a decade ago. Oh, sure, we had thermography, and letterpress (although only offered by a few printers, and it was so cost prohibitive, most people couldn't afford it), as well as hand-calligraphy, and we also had a number of invitation companies to choose from (Carlson Craft and Rexcraft among the more well-known). I just realized that I sound like a real old fogey, talking about how things were "back then". Oy.

But lately there seems to be a trend in the one-of-a kind, DIY invitation, and a lot of the ones I've seen are really creative! One of my favorite new-ish ideas is the pocketfold invitation.

I love the idea of including everything about a wedding in a neat little package that can be wrapped up with a ribbon or secured with a sticker or wax seal. Everything from the invitation, to the response card, to the directions and accommodations can be included in a pocketfold, which keeps things nice and neat for guests. Plus, if you're a DIY bride, pocketfolds can be very budget friendly, as the pocketfolds themselves can be bought for as little as $1.00 each!

Personally, I intend to DIY my pocketfolds, even though I'm not the most crafty person on the planet. I like the idea of being able to print my own cardstock, and use whatever designs FH and I can find to tie into the theme of our wedding. Don't worry, I'll be sure to post photos of the results!

Here are a few sample pocketfolds that I've come across that have inspired me:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHfta_mCefL7FC_aJlf7-La_ITTujrjyf7PagbBupZzgbrtIub9YadezR7XVF_GUgBGnyVFtIqp942EI54xPPyL4loZK_9BdhI7PtFFW8-rJNGS9xcJFUOGkf7gJmqSdr_DG03uKHlsUo/s320/innerk.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105475233018506994" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmnvXJWxvo3fKvlYW6eoVisilTeYJt-xzY1yghgqVWc3-8hM6TxN07715wT_PARJx0b5SdufiA9Xc5UXREq_jAzMeL7dQwNXocVThmp0njLwGkZB3D6ZapjnBVgwS2DQ5obZ23NGzszhk/s320/spiderweddingbee.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105475147119161058" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmcCrtfn5-da7gmvKqHpGfPJqGaBeA4dzBj0LQN0re4YXDyyflhXXZpaTHxL194gc0HzNn-v6TdYOxD6LkUsqZjua7lM9fxUIpO5VLgOJm8WYa-IKRmr8CO-mooP23Nx2Q4rLiZFqh74U/s320/m96382210.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105475069809749714" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir6I8laRhS9lh6CSnMxXJ1Xx1Jmo6BXaPEKBuMg1_nfLXQ25INCWDyk3jaNYbwziVWjx7SgJUh2-Q96kyamxChQITUwl36vaT9jIQm4xJHU4CnSpi_5moRjFi_aBPyD5BLAfGka9OAV38/s320/47b6cc29b3127cce8fab4299b08900000016101AZuW7hq4ZMX.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105474983910403778" />BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-44400001279293713512007-08-29T09:37:00.000-07:002007-09-01T10:11:13.691-07:00Cupcake HeavenDuring my recent trip to Seattle, I met up with a bunch of Seattle brides that I met on the Craigslist wedding forum (if you haven't checked it out yet, I highly suggest you do. It requires you to sign in with a username, but trust me- it's worth it). I suggested we meet at Trophy cupcakes, which is my MOST. FAVORITE. CUPCAKE. PLACE. ON. THE. PLANET. Not only are they incredibly yummy, but they are beautiful to look at. Don't believe me? Of course, the most difficult thing will be deciding WHICH cupcakes we want! FH and I are pretty partial to their carrot cake cupcake (it's all about their cream cheese frosting---It's SCRUMPTIOUS), and their red velvet cupcake is also quite tasty. FH loves their lemon cupcake, and I actually like their peanut butter and jelly cupcake. Of course, none of these options are in our wedding colors (pink and green), so we'll either have to pick another option or just stick with our faves and call it good. Who cares if they don't match, right?

Right?

*sound of crickets chirping*

(Thanks to Seattle knottie LaMaddelena for some of these pics)BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-88037229093082807872007-08-27T15:38:00.000-07:002007-09-02T16:13:47.751-07:00Registry SchmegistrySince this will be the second wedding for both of us, and since we're kinda old (kidding- we're 33 and 35 respectively), we each already have most of the things that younger brides and grooms would register for. We have china, linens, everyday dishes, pots and pans, and a bunch of kitchen gadgets. We're even getting rid of some things after we combine households because we'll have duplicate items.

What, oh what, are us older, more established brides to do then, for our registries?
FH and I considered not doing a registry at all, because really... we don't need more STUFF. But then our families got on our case because they said they really would like to have the option of purchasing a gift. We considered doing a honeymoon registry, but it seems the jury's still out on whether that's appropriate or not (every time we hear someone comment on how cool it is, there's another person who hates the idea). We also thought that in lieu of gifts, guests could simply donate money to a charity of our choice, but our experience has shown us that when people have the option they generally don't make donations.

One idea is to register for things that we would never purchase ourselves, or for things that we just haven't gotten around to buying (like camping gear). After reviewing a few sites, we finally selected Weddingchannel.com as our registry site. The primary reason we picked it is because they will donate money from each registry purchase to the charity of your choice. Thus, we can indulge our family's desire to have a registry, and our own desire to make sure some money goes to our favorite charity (the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, in honor of FH's mom).

Also, we can register at places like REI for things like this:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy-s_U9SlpwjfK9t68swhPdWApUjXQGmdk3NnPbQI36Ea3cZcBx9uQZasBVM75-7GUh_lr0yohqchRhJ4DL3it91fAIzBLrK3XaidEIitYHOi4u7-apn-w8l4VDzAKp4xqjE8pvhs1jO4/s320/tent.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105748070815985426" />

And Williams Sonoma (since we're total foodies) for things like this Panini maker:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbzVkishae4JqaTrggptcTTUNTuUNg1dTptjSIiO0vgCHMPoCEntAerYax4lTeRLtk3qsApTrjAdnRLviEy4IID6d7wfxckWCHAlBtZx9v6itdanMlhtXgGMRHikWidFD2eoLkjwp9ykA/s320/panini.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105748186780102434" />BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-27312633346052211202007-08-26T23:34:00.000-07:002007-09-01T22:07:51.528-07:00Mai Tais or Museums?FH and I have been talking alot lately about where we want to take our honeymoon. On the one hand, we know we're going to be soooooooo tired after our wedding weekend that we'll probably want to just relax on the beach, cocktail in hand, and get sunburned like the lobsters we are. OK, really, it's just me who's a lobster (FH is lucky enough to have naturally dark skin so he never burns! Bah!). On the other hand, we know we would last only about a day on the beach before we'd start itching to DO something. We've picked out our STD's, and have decided what to do for invitations, centerpieces, etc. I even have my dress already. Interestingly enough, though, I haven't been "officially" proposed to.

I know. You just fainted, right?

The thing is, FH and I have talked about getting married since early May, and over the 4th of July weekend when we were visiting family in the D.C. area, he asked me if I'd like to take a trip with him to start looking at engagement rings. Never one to turn down jewelry shopping, off we went. I tried on a lot of different styles (click for bigger):

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL9gyp45bG6vFc_5zBZhGvowSDWP2SIBoO-kOZ05hhWobcDmmaqWLnYdTNzQcKFhKBtfRKPqtvgtXcwk0HJyoNMtM17nB9gr7v0gKVFIX-fyBJnbCoG5pVWRsfhb1_aowjL8EQYEFovTE/s200/P1010622.JPGedited.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5105290888727195026" />

While I really liked all of them, they didn't really have the vintage feel to them that I'd prefer in an engagement ring. So we'll see what he picks! I'll be sure to post a photo after our "official" proposal (I have a feeling he'll do it when we're in Santorini in just a few weeks, so stay tuned!). :)BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-10704007711624973422007-08-21T08:15:00.000-07:002007-08-21T09:08:55.337-07:00Up? Down. Up? Down. Half Up, Half Down? Hm.
I'm a no-stress kinda gal. I'm not high maintenance, I don't do frou-frou, and I don't spend an hour getting ready in the morning. Instead, I hop out of the shower, towel dry my hair and scrunch it, and let it dry naturally. I use a little concealer on my trouble areas, dust my face with powder, throw on some lip gloss and call it good. Is it a surprise to anyone I was a tomboy growing up?

So when it comes to the wedding day appearance, I'm at a loss. I can't decide if I want to wear my hair up, or down, or some combination of the two. FH likes my hair up because he says I have a "graceful neck". I like my hair down because somehow it feels less.... exposed (this suits my shy nature just fine). But I wear my hair down every day, and I want to do something a little different. My wedding dress is strapless, so I can really go either way. Decisions, decisions!

Here are some inspirational pics. Can you see why it's so hard to decide? So many of these are beautiful...

Up:

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5101181055996488594" style="FLOAT: left; There's something really appealing to me about shots of brides and grooms in urban settings, as if they would simply blend into the crowd if it weren't for the fact that they're wearing a wedding dress and a tux. My only concern is: what if a car drives by and splashes mud, dirt, and water all over the dress? I think I might have a heart attack right then and there.

Maybe it's best to save urban shots for a day-after shoot... of course, that would require a second photo session (could get expensive) and a second day of makeup and hair. For those of you who are planning on doing city shots, are you doing them before the ceremony, after the ceremony, or on another day altogether?

Here's some examples of the kinds of photos I'm talking about (I envision additional photos of us sitting in the original Starbucks sharing a frappuccino with two straws, walking through Pike Place market, and reading books at our favorite local bookstore, Elliot Bay Books):

BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-4766280999085085292007-08-18T13:48:00.000-07:002007-08-21T00:05:17.727-07:00The Candy BuffetIt seems one of the newest trends these days for wedding favors is the candy buffet. Guests are given a bag, a small box, or even a chinese takeout box and can select whatever candy they want to take home with them at the end of the night. I think this is such a fabulous idea, and have thought about giving it a little twist. Since our reception venue is a 1920's art deco building, why not include old-fashioned candy like stick candy, Abba Zabbas and Bit-O'Honey's? But I keep finding so many beautiful cakes online, I just couldn't help myself. I had to post some of the most beautiful ones I've come across. As with invitations, there are a million options for these, from the simple to the elegant to the funky. Our wedding is an art deco theme (well, sort of), and I plan to use a lot of damask fabrics on the tables.

We didn't want to spend a lot of money on our STD cards (actually we're trying not to spend a lot of money on just about everything), and through various discussions with other brides on different message boards, we decided to go with VistaPrint. Affordable, customizable, lots of templates to work with, and oh.. did I mention affordable? So affordable, in fact, that we also got matching magnets with our wedding colors!

BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-40576513781037229382007-08-13T14:21:00.000-07:002007-08-13T23:21:53.480-07:00Decisions, Decisions... Otherwise Known As "The Stress Related To Finding A Venue"My FH and I went back and forth about possible venues. We knew we wanted it to have a Seattle "feel", since most of our guests would be coming from out of town (OOT). We wanted it to be either outdoors, or have a fabulous view of the outdoors. And we didn't want to pay thousands of dollars for it.

We scoured venues with fabulous views, we looked at places with more rustic feels (barns in beautiful settings), and while we found some amazing locations, there was always something that wouldn't work (too expensive, too far to travel, unavailable on our date, etc.). And then we went to the Woodland Park Zoo and saw the rose garden.

As soon as we walked through the gates to the garden and saw the gazebo at one end surrounded by row upon row of blooming roses and sculpted foliage, we looked at each other and said "WOW". We knew. This was the place.

We also decided to have our reception at the Lake Union Cafe, a really cool 1920's art deco space that got great reviews from brides on The Knot. It has really pretty chandeliers, is big enough for the number of guests we're having, will let us bring in our own alcohol (a HUGE cost savings), and even overlooks the water. Perfect.

BrideToBehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05644849431605386252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2397024062083331946.post-41751120207153607342007-08-13T13:49:00.000-07:002007-08-13T16:12:28.799-07:00And In The Beginning, There Was Ebay...When I got engaged, I jumped right into the wedding planning. I knew exactly the kind of look I wanted to go for: Outdoors, intimate, and different. Luckily, my future husband (hereafter lovingly referred to as "FH") went along with the idea, and we've been finding inspiration ever since.

I thought the first decision would be the venue, but I was wrong. The first thing I found was my dress!

A lot of brides agonize over their dresses, trying to decide whether they want white or ivory, tea length or floor length, train or no train, simple or elaborate, sheath or ballgown, sleeveless or not... the decisions are endless!!! Knowing that I am the most indecisive person on the PLANET, I knew I would stress out over finding the perfect dress.

To get an idea of different styles and prices, I went to the first place I thought of: Ebay. And literally, within an hour, I found it. Simple, tailored, and perfect for an outdoor wedding. Also, it was less than $300.
