All About Asscher

When it comes to diamond shapes, I have to admit, there are certain shapes I'm more partial to than others. Don't get me wrong, I love diamonds (especially because I don't have many of them!), and would never turn one down regardless of its shape. But the honest truth is that my favorite cut has always been the Asscher.

When FH and I first started talking about rings, he asked me what I liked best. My reply? "Asschers, definitely". He, being a guy, had no idea what that meant. So a few weeks later we went looking at rings, just so he could get a sense for what looked good on my finger and what styles I preferred.

Although there were many lovely settings and many different diamond shapes that I liked, I pointed out to him that there was no reason whatsover for him to buy something expensive. After all, I generally don't wear jewelry, I'm hard on the jewelry I DO wear, and at this point in my life, I don't need the bling. I showed him a number of beautiful art deco style rings that I liked, none of which had a solitare diamond. In fact, they all had small diamonds, but beautifully arranged into some really neat designs. The benefit of these styles of course, was the fact that they weren't expensive, comparitively.

So imagine my great surprise when FH surprised me with this (pardon my wrinkly fingers- I'll have to start using lotion more often obviously!):

I was shocked. So shocked, in fact, that it took me all of 10 minutes to say "yes" (as if that were even a question, but still). And you know, I've gotta say, while I would have loved one of those art deco designs, I am really starting to realize that yeah.... I'm a total Asscher girl. :)
